NaNoWriMo, or National Novel Writing Month, is an annual event in which writers from all over the world compete to produce a full-length novel (50,000 words or more) during the month of November. I’ve taken part four times and completed two of them. This will be my fifth year, and I am looking forward to the project ahead of me.

For my novel, I’m working on a piece called “Swipe Right For Love,” which was supposed to be a collaboration between a fellow author and myself. Because my colleague wishes to focus on other stories, she has given me permission to continue working on the project on my own, which is why I opted to tackle it for NaNoWriMo.

The plot revolves around a middle-aged woman who must relearn how to date after leaving a twenty-year marriage. With technology, apps, and a hook-up culture, the dating world has changed. How do you find love again just on a photo and a three-hundred-word life summary? In her hunt for love, our main character chooses to take a gamble and swim with sharks.

NaNoWriMo is a fantastic community event that brings together authors who share a same objective. I’ll be working with several different author groups and hope to create some long-lasting friendships as well as publish an excellent book.
